Entry Requirement

Able to listen, read, write and speak English at WPLN Level 2 or equivalent for PAPP.
Able to listen, read, write and speak English at WPLN Level 1 or equivalent for CSSPB and CCTC.
Open to Singaporeans, Permanent Residents (PR), and Foreigners.
Minimum age: 18 years old and above.
Minimum education: Secondary school qualification or higher.
Suitable for new entrants to the Security Industry.
Possess good interpersonal skills.
Applicants who do not meet the above requirements will be required to attend an in-house interview for eligibility assessment.
Certification: WSQ Statement of Attainment issued by SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG).
Registration Deadline: 5 days before course commencement.
Dress Code: Casual attire (collared shirt & long pants / uniform) with covered shoes.

The WSQ Parliament passed the Infrastructure Protection Act (IPA) on 2nd October 2017 and assented to by the President of the Republic of Singapore on 23rd October 2017. In the IPA, it is illustrated that the Authorised Officer (AO) that provide guarding service of a protected area or protected place is authorised to exercise rights to allow or deny any entry to the protected area or protected place, as well as exercise as a means of deterrence against possible terrorist attacks.
Have the knowledge of security safeguards for building under the Infrastructure Protection Act.
Able to manage and deny unwarranted entries into the buildings with screening, search, detention and arrest procedures.
Able to detect, deter, deny and response to unauthorized intelligence and suspicious activities at specific surrounding of protected place.

CSSPB outcome

To demonstrate mastery of the tasks in this course, the participants must be able to do the following within the given time limit and with the materials, tools and equipment supplied:
Prepare security screening duty.
Prepare person for security screening.
Perform security screening of person with walk-through and hand-held metal detectors.
Conduct manual screening (pat-down) of person.
Conduct manual bag search.
Conclude security screening activities.

On completion of this unit, participants will have the knowledge and skills to effectively Crowd and Traffic Control and transfer the learning acquired to their workplace, which includes:
Able to describe the primary roles, functions and expectations of persons conducting crowd and traffic control in adherence to the organisational procedures.
Able to identify the types and appropriate uses of security equipment, and to demonstrate checks on its functionality.
Able to identify the types of physical barriers and their uses, and demonstrate familiarity in the setup for demarcation.
Able to identify the different forms of crowd control methods and apply them in compliance with the organisational procedures.
Able to demonstrate the steps in ensuring proper regulation and dispersal of crowd.
Able to assess the crowd behaviour, and adopt effective communication and crowd control techniques when handling challenging situations.
Able to identify persons with special needs, and to ensure the crowd’s safety.
Able to identify the different forms of traffic control methods and apply them in compliance with the organisational procedures.
Able to demonstrate familiarity in managing, facilitating and controlling the traffic flow of vehicles by using the appropriate hand signals and signage.
Able to recognise traffic hazards and take appropriate action in accordance to the organisational procedures.

Progressive wage model for security

The Progressive Wage Model (PWM) for security officers was developed by the Security Tripartite Cluster (STC). It features:

Training requirements to ensure that workers have the skills they need to carry out their jobs.
Progressive wages set at each level. This ensures that workers are paid wages that correspond to their skills and productivity.

The PWM requirements are mandatory. They cover all Singapore citizens and permanent residents who are employed as security officers in licensed security agencies, or by in-house employers that hire foreign workers.
